How come I'm not a top contributor?

Ron Keliipio: Hello. To become a TC ( Top Contributor), 3 steps are required. (1) Choose a particular category(2) Accumulate best answers(3) Remain active. The Yahoo! Staffs keep the TC formula confidential because Users would misuse the main purpose of being a TC. For example: A TC is supposed to be a knowledgeable individual in a particular category, and if Users find out what it exactly takes to become a TC, they would start becoming a TC unfairly. So this is the significant reason the Staffs keep the formula on how to become a TC confidential. Nevertheless, very few Users ( particularly TC’s) know exactly what it takes to become a TC in a single week ( at least I feel I know the formula, if not pretty close). So we go back to step 1, which is to choose a particular category, to begin the process. Make sure to choose a category you are knowledgeable in. ( i.e. if you know Mathematics well, then contribute your knowledge in the Mathematics category).Step 2 requires BA (! Best Answer). BA means your answer(s) are correct, suitable, helpful or accurate. When someone asks a question, he/she expects an accurate, correct, suitable or informative answer, and that is what you are supposed to do; you are supposed to be a top contributor by providing accurate, helpful, informative and suitable answers in the category of your choice. The trick about becoming a TC all depends on the amount of BA you receive within a single week. Synonymously, if you answer 30 questions and receive 16 BA’s, you are likely to become a TC in that week. Step 3 requires active contribution. This does not mean one has to answer a lot of questions every day; it simple means to show up at work. For example: I only answer 30 questions weekly, occasionally less or more, and I manage to retain my TC badge without having to worry about losing it. That is right, I only answer 2 to 5 questions daily, and sometimes I do not answer any questions for 3 days straight. One more thing! : try to accumulate 200+ points weekly in a particular categor! y. This means you can answer 30 questions, which would be 60 points, and receive BA’s to make it up to 200+ points. Note you gain 10 points for each BA, and an additional 1 point for each thumb up on your answer selected as the best. THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW:Users can become a TC in up to 3 categories simultaneously ( I have also seen Users with 4 TC statuses). The TC badge is not permanent. You gain it and lose it, depending on your recent contribution within the category(s) of your choice. Users who are qualified for the TC badge will receive their badge on Monday morning, and once Users are given the TC badge, it takes exactly 3 weeks for the badge to be taken away if requirements are not met. Certain categories, such as Poll and Survey, do not offer the TC badge because categories like those do not require knowledge sharing contribution. Vote for your answers whenever they’re in voting. It is perfectly legal to vote for yourself with a single account. This will increas! e your chance for accumulating BA’s. However, using more than one account to vote your answers as best is against the Community Guidelines and will result the sudden termination of your account. Take care, and I hope this information serves you well....Show more

Pei Heatherly: I don't think they ever said exactly how many best answers you need in a category to be a "top contributor." I suspect it varies from category to category depending on how popular the category is. Just pick a category that you're good in and answer A LOT of questions in that category and you, too, can be a "top contributor." Don’t believe people when they say “just answer 50 answers in 30 days” or stuff like that. Yahoo keeps it deliberately vague so they never promised an exact figure to anyone. It may, as I said, vary from category to category. However, I have a rough idea of how long it takes to become a top contributor because a friend of mine made it after she answered all her ques! tions in only one (1) category for a month in order to earn that badge.! She doesn’t log on as often as I do so that only amounted to about 85 answers but she made it. She had a 30% “best answer rating.”It’s been said somewhere here on Yahoo that you need at least 10% of those answers to be “best answers.” It may take weeks of answering a lot in a category so be patient, Rome wasn't built in a day. While I made it to “Top Contributor” in two weeks of answering regularly in certain categories, I do log on every single day. It’s harder to make it to Top Contributor if you only log in now and then or, when you log in, you don’t answer a ton of questions.Just remember, concentrate your energies on ONE sub-category. Don’t answer all categories say, in Health, but concentrate on Alternative Health or Women’s Health or Men’s Health or Diet and Fitness. PICK ONE SPECIFIC CATEGORY AND STICK WITH IT! The biggest mistake most people make is they spread themselves too thin....Show more
