What would be a good first car?

Benny Stehno: Hahaha, "Buy American made"! Why? It is simply not possible to produce a better car than most of the Asian countries. They are progressive and have cheap labor, not to mention cheaper parts from vendors, don't have to pay into the retirement of a million dinosaurs, don't have to worry about expensive upgrades to meet health/safety regulations, etc. If you're trying to suggest you get more for your money buying American in 2010 you're simply being ignorant. Even looking into the detailed specs, you'll see that the tolerances on parts for the Asian car manufacturers is significantly tighter. This all goes for new. Fortunately, American cars can be competitive in the used spectrum as so many people are flocking to imports. For $3000 you can buy a Civic with 200K miles on it or a Chevy with half that.Specific suggestions? I'd still go with the newest Civic you can find. They're expensive used, but if you don't want to hassle with repairs and just want a! simple little buggy to get you from A to B efficiently, they're hard to beat. The only thing I can suggest to stay away from is newer 3.4 liter engines from GM. I see a lot of kids buying cars with these because they have decent power and are cheap, but it has been a notably problematic motor throughout the years....Show more

Omar Phipps: get honda or a toyota.
